Peru Vacation Horror Stories and How To Avoid Them

Peru Vacation Horror Stories and How To Avoid Them

To paraphrase, "It Happens". If you are traveling independently things won't always go according to plan on your Peru vacation and often the best you can hope for is that the disaster happens to someone else. However, you can always reduce your chances of being the unwilling star of an unfolding travel nightmare by learning from other people's experiences or by having a Tour Operator take the strain. If you decide to go DIY here are 4 classics horror stories and advice to help you avoid a similar fate.
Please remember that 99 percent of people never encounter problems but as with any foreign country, forewarned is forearmed!
Horror story number 1. Peru moto-taxis - vehicles from hell
If a force of evil was ever represented through vehicles, it would probably look a lot like a moto-taxi. Many people think that the whole experience is thrilling and funny but for others it may not be. Speeding recklessly through traffic and polluting the air as much as four to five real cars, there is very little reason for their existence. To add to the fun, one unlucky traveller fell foul of a scheme where drivers partner up with thieves. A taxi drove past him slowly with two people inside; one hopped out and robbed him, afterwards jumping back into the moto-taxi which sped off.
How to avoid the horror: Tourists can avoid problems like these by traveling in authorized taxis taken from your hotel or the airport, having taxis pre-organised by your restuarants, staying clear of bad neighbourhoods and keeping valuables hidden in transit.
Horror story number 2. Peru Border crossings - from the frying pan into the fire
Another classic location for scams is when crossing between countries. In a common example, one couple was scammed crossing the border from Peru to Ecuador. They were told by someone who said he was from the only bus company that could take them across the border. He added that he could help them get the bus and the company was sending people to pick up travellers from the bus stations. Instead they were led on a merry dance to a market, then to a car park. Finally the scammers were 'picked up by the police', after which the couple had to pay the scammers several hundred dollars in order to 'cover fines'.
How to avoid the horror: With the benefit of hindsight, the advice is to never trust or follow a stranger in a border area, and to make all decisions at a border slowly and cautiously, asking for opinions of multiple people. Better still have an organized crossing with a guide and your own transport.
Horror story number 3. Peru Hotel Experiences - the fine art of Peruvian customer service
Arriving late one night at the bus station an arranging to stay at a hotel with a double room, private bath and toilet, a couple were

treated to a fine example of the dark side of Peruvian service. They arrived at the hotel and there was no room for them. They were forced to sleep on the floor of the common area with no privacy, take showers in the filthy workers room, and use the public restroom that had no mirror, soap, or light. They complained to the management, but it was no use. The owner said she did not speak English but during the conversation hid behind her associate and translated the conversation, saying in English at the end, "You are only two, millions come here."
How to avoid the horror: Use websites such as tripadvisor.com to check out the real stories behind the glossy hotel brochures or select a travel agent to do the work for you. If you end up having a bad experience, you can take your revenge on the same pages to warn the "millions of others". If you choose to book through a tour company that has well-established relationships with hotels, you will add that extra level of guarantee.
Horror story number 4. Climbing mountains the unpleasant way
One couple hired a guide to climb the volcano Chachani near Arequipa along with two other people. The mountain has a height of 6,000 meters and people need to acclimate themselves. The guide claimed to be of an international standard. However, the climb, which should have taken eight hours took them fourteen as the guide climbed extremely slowly and did not pay attention to the two other people who were not trained to climb such a height. He did not listen to the explanation of their struggles, and was very rude. This will definitely ruin your holiday!
How to avoid the horror: Ask other travellers for recommendations when selecting guides, or only hire guides from respected agencies. Also try to avoid the temptation to cut costs, especially if you are undertaking a potentially dangerous activity such as mountaineering or remote trekking. A better-paid guide will generally provide a better level of service.
Many of these problems come from independent travel, trying to move around too quickly with little preparation and trying to bring costs down to accommodate a small travel budget. A good alternative if you're short on time is to book through a tour agency with a good level of local knowledge and a strong network of trusted tourism contacts. This way, you'll only be reading Peru vacation horror stories, instead of writing them.

Apple Releasing New iPad and More

Apple Releasing New iPad and More

Creating something each year that is newer and better than the last is the name of the game in technology. For Apple, the release of the iPad was huge, but that has been almost a whole year ago, so now Apple will release its new iPad2. The iPad2 should hit the market by early next year, with its unveiling in January.

So what could possibly be different with the new iPad? There are many rumors, so one will have to wait and see, but as for the rumors – it is suggested that the iPad2 will include FaceTime technology. The iPad will have cameras on both the back and front so that they can use FaceTime to contact friends or family through a Wi-Fi connection – something similar to Skype, except those you contact must have an iPhone 4, iPod Touch or Mac Computer.

The iPad2 may also be lighter in weight. Apple is using carbon fiber panels and thinner glass to reduce the weight of their devices. The iPad2 will also include Apples new Retina Display Technology. What is this? For the iPhone it has meant an LCD that boasts a super high pixel density by squeezing a 960-by-640-pixel resolution into 3.5. Retina Display technology also has an improved contrast ratio. The contrast ratio is often four times that of other models.

The iPad2 will also include 3-axis gyroscopes, which could mean the ability to play a whole set of new games. There will also be a USB port included on the new iPad2 as people have complained that the original iPad didn't include one.  The iPad2 will have   a Cortex-A9 chip CPU, and more memory. Some websites are also predicting the iPad2 will have a 7-inch model to bridge the gap
between the iPhone/iPod touch and the current large iPad screen. As for the price of this new unit, Apple is keeping this a secret.

Other new releases with Apple include the new MacBook Pro. The new Macbook Pro could come with a complete redesign and include features released in the new MacBook Air.

Rumor is that the new MacBook Pro will include up to 512GB. This will be a significant change from the minor changes Apple has given the MacBook Pro over the years. What else will be different? They are talking about removing the optical drive from the Pro machine and adding SSD and light peak technology.

Light Peak is a new technology that can transfer huge chunks of data quickly, like 10 Gbps both up and down. Apple and Intel have been working together in developing Light Peak and the release of it would be exclusive to Apple. Intel has already been talking about Light Peak and its ability to scale to 100GBs within the next 10 years. Some are saying this new technology will be the replacement of USB 3.0.

Last,  the new MacBook Pro is expected to be released with a new version of Final Cut Pro.

The new MacBook Pro hasn't changed in regards to its high price. The new release is said to be priced around $1,999.

Number Of Privately Monitored Florida Traffic Cameras Increase

Number Of Privately Monitored Florida Traffic Cameras Increase

Any driver who has even been caught by a traffic camera probably knows the frustration and pain of receiving a ticket via the mail. When it comes to getting caught speeding or possibly running a light by a piece of technology, rather than a human, it is very difficult to defend yourself and your rights as a driver. Unfortunately, Florida traffic cameras are on the rise and many drivers are worried about what this may mean for them.
Technology is being routinely employed to catch drivers who are speeding or running lights. When a driver is caught, a photo of the vehicle is snapped and a ticket is then sent to the driver's residence along with a picture of the driver committing the illegal act.
When controlled by law enforcement alone, cameras are typically placed in locations where there have been a large number of accidents. They may also be placed in high traffic areas where drivers frequently violate the laws.
For many cities, driving violations are a great source of income that can be used for a variety of city projects and budgetary needs. However, many drivers assume that all monitoring devices are being installed and maintained by city officials, such as law enforcement officers. This is no longer the case, since many cities are now hiring private security firms to run the cameras for them.
For many drivers, privately run road monitoring technologies are a huge source of concern. This is because the private companies are largely driven by a need to profit, rather than a need to improve driver safety. It is possible that an increase in privately run monitors will lead to an increase in ticketed drivers as well as higher fines. There is also the possibility that the newly installed devices will do nothing to decrease the number of car accidents and that they will only be placed in

locations where there is a high volume of traffic.
Drivers who receive a ticket that has been based on photographic evidence, unfortunately, have very little chance of being able to successfully fight the ticket. This is because many courts will uphold the image itself and the description of the technologies as fact without questioning its nature. For example, some people have cited that the sensitivity of some devices is too high and that they are not capable of differentiating between a driver who must go through a yellow light as it turns red because there was not enough time to stop and a driver who blatantly runs a red light. In both cases, a ticket will be issued.
In response to the increased prevalence of monitoring devices, some companies have come up with methods to help drivers avoid being issued a ticket. For example, there are now special sprays and license plate covers that can prevent a camera from identifying your license plate number. The number will still be visible to the naked eye, though.
It is possible that the rise in Florida traffic cameras may lead to increased driver safety. However, you may want to invest in a GPS device that tracks their locations to help you drive defensively and avoid a ticket.

Classroom Lessons

Dreaming was a rreal time of learning for me and frequently I found mhyself in a classroom.  I came to believe that the angels and saints used the dream time to guide us and teach us life's lessons.

I was in a class of some kind.  The instructor gave us a mimeographed sheet.  She was assigning definitions and I was high-lighting thenm in yellow.  The second was TRUST.  I was provoked that we would hav to define such a simple term.  everyone knew what that meant.  I wanted to be really challenged.   There was an assignment of gathering pictures.   I had missed some and was trying to fill in while we ate.  One was of a bowling team, another a girl on a bicycle.  These seemed the less important ones which I still needed.

Upon awakening, I realized that knowing what the word trust meant and practing it was svery different.  The pictures wwe were to gather were real life ictures and life practices seemed to be the aim of the lesson.

              Another everning,
I was watching a delightful little old lady in a wheel chair who was gyuiding her brother and siser.  Her brother came from behind and put his hand over her forehead.  I marveled at their delightfully  sparking eyes and smiley faces

This figure became the symbol of the ideal grandmother within, one who had led a life of service and was therefore filled with happiness and joy.  She became a symbol of wisdom, that which is gained fromn life experiences.  In retsrospect, I would call her the crone.

 The Silver Ship

I call this my "rite of passage"  dream since it marks my movement toward being truly self-directed.  I have always been happy with the outconme of the dream, yet I also realized the sense of loneliness my choice would bring, a loneliness that was necessary for growth.

I was in a beautiful forest where all kinds of animals were  coning.  Little bird-like chicks came out of the grass and I helped them along.   A man came in carryng a tray upon which were six circular pins, one of which I could choose as reward for my work in the prison.  Two were plastic roses, three were plastic angels ands one was a silver ship.    A sister, named John, dressed in complete black habit stood by the side and told me to take the roses.  Without reply, I reached over and took the SILVER SHIP.

II felt that the dream was saying that I chose something of value over that of lesser vakyemtgat U gad nade tge decusuibngtsekf abd that it was unique in alll the world.  The words of ee. cummings became very meaningful to me:  "To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best day and night to make you  everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight and never stop fighting"

Israel's Rebellion at the Red Sea

Israel's Rebellion at the Red Sea

The children of Israel that God sent Moses to bring out of Egyptian bondage into the Promised Land were a faithless group almost from the very beginning.  Their rebellion against God began before Mt. Sinai and even before the Red Sea crossing.  The Psalmist said, "Our fathers in Egypt did not understand your wonders; they did not remember the multitude of your mercies, but rebelled by the sea--the Red Sea." (Psa. 106:7 NKJV)  It is a profitable study to look into the details of that rebellion and see what can be learned from it that would be of value to us today.
When God appeared to Moses at the burning bush he introduced himself as follows:  "'I am the God of your father--the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.'   And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God.  And the Lord said:  'I have surely seen the oppression of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.   So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey… Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.   Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.'" (Ex. 3:6-10 NKJV)
Moses was instructed to go to Egypt, gather the elders of the people together, tell them of God and the mission he had sent Moses on, and specifically (for the purposes of this article) tell them, "I (God - DS) will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to … a land flowing with milk and honey." (Ex. 3:17 NKJV – see Ex. 3:13-22 for the full account)
He was also given 3 miracles or signs he was to perform before the people as proof God had sent him to them.  These signs can be found listed in Ex. 4:1-9 and consisted of his staff being turned into a snake when thrown to the ground, his hand placed in his cloak becoming leprous, and water from the Nile being poured on the ground and becoming blood.  The snake when picked up by the tail became a staff again and the hand placed into the cloak after becoming leprous was returned healthy.  The Bible says, "So the people believed." (Ex. 4:31 NKJV)
However, when Moses and Aaron approached Pharaoh requesting he let the children of Israel go it seems it made Pharaoh angry and he increased greatly the work load on the Israelites.  Furthermore, it seems some period of time went by under these increasingly intolerable conditions to the point that even Moses began to wonder for he says to the Lord, "Lord, why have you brought trouble on this people? Why is it you have sent me?  For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has done evil to this people; neither have you delivered your people at all." (Ex. 5:22-23 NKJV)  Moses most likely still believed but did not understand.
The children of Israel were beginning to doubt.  They say to Moses, "Let the Lord look on you and judge, because you have made us abhorrent in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us." (Ex. 5:21 NKJV)  They were not seeing any exodus.  One suspects this was the time referred to in Ex. 14:12 at the Red Sea rebellion when the children of Israel seeing the Egyptian army approaching told Moses, "Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying, 'Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians?'" (NKJV)  When they told Moses that back in Egypt there is little doubt their thinking was if it was not for this trouble maker Moses Pharaoh would be more lenient with us.  Yes, they doubted Moses and God.
God then tells Moses, "Therefore say to the children of Israel: 'I am the Lord; I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments.  I will take you as my people, and I will be your God. Then you shall know that I am the Lord your God who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.   And I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and I will give it to you as a heritage: I am the Lord.'  So Moses spoke thus to the children of Israel; but they did not heed Moses, because of anguish of spirit and cruel bondage." (Ex. 6:6-9 NKJV)
I want you to note something at this point in time.  God has now told them at least twice his intentions toward them (Ex. 3:7 and 6:6-9).  Are they going to believe God or disbelieve?  It is hard to be a believer sometimes.  Things are going rotten and we can see no hope and feel God has abandoned us.  We begin to doubt him.  There was light at the end of the tunnel but they could not see it and were unwilling to believe it.
Is there a lesson here for us as regards our faith?  Are we going to believe God is with us when things get tough or are we going to forsake him and give up our faith?  The children of Israel were giving up too soon.  What is the old saying - is it not that it is always darkest before the dawn.  We would do well to remember that and wait on the Lord.  His word is good.  If he has said a thing it will come to pass.  There are no valid grounds for doubt.
We now enter the period of the ten plagues.  All could see God working in these events and the children of Israel had the opportunity of seeing God being on their side as they were spared some of the plagues that fell on the Egyptians.  They were spared the plague of the flies (Ex. 8:20-30), the plague on the livestock (Ex. 9:1-7), the plague of boils (Ex. 9:8-12), the plague of hail (Ex. 9:13-33), the plague of locusts possibly (based on Ex. 10:6 but also see Ex. 10:14 which makes it unclear), the plague of darkness (Ex. 10:21-29), and the plague on the firstborn males (Ex. 11).  As they began to exit Egypt they also saw the pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night indicating God's presence and guidance (Ex. 13:21).
One would feel certain after seeing all of these plagues and seeing how they themselves had been spared from most of them, God drawing a clear distinction between the children of Israel and the Egyptians, and seeing how their own firstborn sons were not struck down in death under the last plague that the children of Israel would never doubt God again.  They had seen and observed too much so one would have thought.  Add to that the cloud by day and pillar of fire by night, how could you see that and doubt?
Right here we can learn another lesson that becomes very obvious.  Great works of God, great miracles, in and of themselves do not by themselves necessarily create a lasting faith.  For a time they may strike awe and wonder into a person and for a time make a believer out of him/her but how long is it going to last?  With all Jesus' signs that he performed the Bible says, "Although he had done so many signs before them, they did not believe in him." (John 12:37 NKJV)  Yet, the purpose of signs (miracles) is to create faith, "And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name." (John 20:30-31 NKJV)  Faith is ultimately a free choice man makes miracles or no miracles.
To abbreviate the story and get to the Red Sea rebellion for which we have been setting the stage most are aware that after the death of the Egyptian's firstborn sons that the Israelites were allowed to leave Egypt – almost kicked out – but Pharaoh changed his mind and chased after them.  We know that upon reaching the Red Sea the children of Israel looked back and saw the Egyptian army closing in on them and panic set in.  Here is what the Bible says happened.
"And when Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians marched after them. So they were very afraid, and the children of Israel cried out to the Lord.  Then they said to Moses, 'Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness?   Why have you so dealt with us, to bring us up out of Egypt?   Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying, 'Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians'?  For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should die in the wilderness.'" (Ex. 14:10-12 NKJV)
This is what the Psalmist called the rebellion by the sea in Psalms 106:7.  Yes, they cried out to the Lord but it seems they had little to no faith he would come to their rescue.  This then is yet another lesson for you and me today.  Why call on the Lord if we do not believe he will answer us?  James says of asking for wisdom, "ask in faith, with no doubting" (James 1:6 NKJV) and then says of the man who asks with doubting "let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord." (James 1:7 NKJV)  Jesus taught the disciples to pray believing (Mark 11:24).  He said just 2 verses above in this Mark passage, "Have faith in God." (Mark 11:22 NKJV)
I can see why the children of Israel were scared.  No man had yet dreamed God would split the Red Sea in two parts.  Such was unheard of.  They saw no escape.  Perhaps that ought to be a reminder to you and me that a time such as that in our own lives is the very time to pray and trust in God for deliverance from our trouble for he is the only with power to save under such circumstances.  There was not a man alive with power to save them from the wrath of the Egyptians, only God could save them yet they did not believe he would.
They did not believe yet they had his word to them that they were going to be taken to a land of milk and honey, statements he made to them that we have already referenced earlier in the article.  If they believed God they knew he would intervene.  Does God lie?  They did not trust him.
It seems they were on the verge on waving a white flag and trying to make peace with the Egyptians and return to slavery.  They feared for their lives so that would have seemed as a bargain to them.  They were ready to give up on God.
Here is another lesson we can get out of this.  God does things in his own time.  He could have shown them the way of escape before he did so they would not have panicked.  Was he testing them?  Who can say?  Whether God meant it to be or not no man can say but one can say it ended up being a test of faith whether intentional or not – one they failed.  Man's job before God is to trust and obey and be patient.  If you really trust God, really have faith, patience will come easier for you know God will be there for you in time.
I think the final lesson for me, at least for the purposes of this article, is never look back and doubt.  Our life with God is not about looking behind us but about going forward in faith.  Peter said, "For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.  For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them." (2 Peter 2:20-21 NKJV)
The children of Israel were ready to go back if they could do so in safety.  They wished they had never left.  Peter would call that kind of thing for the Christian as being like a sow having been washed returning to wallow in the mire. (2 Peter 2:22)  Jesus said, "No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God." (Luke 9:62 NKJV)
We have need not to imitate the children of Israel as at the rebellion at the Red Sea but the need to "imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises" (Heb. 6:12 NKJV) for we too have been given promise of a promised land, our own land flowing with milk and honey.  We have need of endurance so that after we have done the will of God we may receive the promise. (Heb. 10:36 NKJV)  So, don't let the Christian look back and begin to doubt and waver and question God.  Let us not rebel at our own Red Sea but do as God told Moses to do when he said to him, "Tell the children of Israel to go forward." (Ex. 14:15 NKJV)  God knows the direction to the Promised Land and it is forward, not backwards.

The Man Who Has Got Everything

The Man Who Has Got Everything

So what do you get the man who has everything? Well, probably a condolence card I imagine. There is nothing more boring than being totally complete, and luckily it is almost impossible. No matter how much a man - or woman for that matter - seems to have, there's always going to be room for something else interesting in their lives. So, what do you get the man who has a hell of a lot?

The internet has opened up a whole host of possibility for buying presents for loved ones and friends. As long as you know them, and know what they like, it is now easy to find something unique and interesting which can find room into the life of even the most seemingly complete of men.

To get some great gift ideas for men, all you really need to do is search through the many gift sites out there. You don't even need that much
inspiration - many of them will take care of that for you, offering a whole range of unique gifts for men that range from the brilliantly practical to screamingly obscure, all of which are sure to find a place in someone's life.

Whether it is a piece of art, an antique or just simply something fun getting gift ideas for men is easy, no matter what sort of man they are. If it seems like they have everything, do some research into these unique gifts for men and then do some subtle detective work to see if any of them would fit into their current life.

No man has everything, and with just a little imagination, or just a little bit of time looking in the right places, you can be sure to get him something he will not only love, but will treasure for many years to come.
